Brandon Sherrod still loves basketball. And he’ll be back. He just has something else he has to do next year. A 6-foot-6-inch forward and sometime starter for the Bulldogs who just finished his junior year, Sherrod is taking a year off from sports and studies to travel the world as a member of the Whiffenpoofs, Yale’s famed a cappella singing group. (It has become the norm recently for students to take a sabbatical from school during their Whiffenpoof year.)

Sherrod first started singing in church choirs in his hometown of Bridgeport, Connecticut. “Music has been a passion of mine way before basketball came into the picture,” he said in an interview with Yale Sports Publicity. But rest easy, basketball fans; Sherrod will return for his final year of eligibility in 2015–16.
