YSD mourns faculty member

The Yale School of Drama community celebrated the life of Tim Vasen ’87, ’93MFA, lecturer in the directing department, at a service on campus on February 6. Vasen, who died on December 28, was also on faculty at Princeton, directing their program in theater. “Tim was a cherished member of the directing faculty at the School of Drama,” said YSD department chair Liz Diamond. “He was a brilliant mentor to directors in production—encouraging them to pursue big visions and ideas, to embrace artistic risk, and to rehearse joyfully. As Tim would say, ‘What could be better than to spend your life making art that brings so much pleasure to so many people!’”

Oscar winner returns to Rep stage

Dianne Wiest, the celebrated actress who received Academy Awards for her roles in the films Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway and who appears currently on the CBS series Life in Pieces, returns to Yale Rep in April to appear in Samuel Beckett’s masterpiece Happy Days, staged by Artistic Director James Bundy ’95MFA. Wiest previously appeared at Yale Rep in productions of Hedda Gabler and A Doll’s House. In Happy Days, she will be joined by Jarlath Conroy, who last appeared at the Rep as the Gravedigger opposite Paul Giamatti ’89, ’94MFA, in Hamlet
