A New Fine Line: Contemporary Ink Painting from China, Artist Reception

August 27, 2015 at 5:00 pm
Denver, CO

This exhibition at the Center for Visual Art features the work of contemporary Chinese artists who employ the gongbi brush tradition in their 21st-century practice. Curated by Julie M. Seagraves, Executive Director of the Asian Art Coordinating Council, A New Fine Line: Contemporary Ink Painting from China offers a glimpse into intriguing developments in Chinese painting invigorated by self-expression and social or political commentary. The attendance of all 9 artists at the reception makes this a special occasion to view the works, while the preceding gongbi demonstration provides additional insight. Because the exhibition may hold interest for art lovers as well as those interested in Chinese culture, the reception is an opportunity for Yalies to attend and then gather at the Interstate Restaurant down the street for post-viewing conversation. CYA secretary and art historian Stephanie Grilli will facilitate this event, and those wishing to participate can come for as little or as much time as they like. We hope that this combination of art viewing and socializing may be a model for future events.
