In Remembrance: Paul Ryan Jr. ’56 Died on January 19 2014

Paul Ryan Jr. died peacefully after a lingering illness on January 19, 2014, at his home in Arroyo Seco, near Taos, New Mexico, surrounded by his wife and other family members. He was 83. Paul entered Yale with the Class of '52, left after his sophomore year, served three years in the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict, and returned to Yale as a junior to graduate with the Class of '56. He was a member of Branford College (where his brother John was a member of the Class of '57). In 1977, he suffered near-fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident in Houston, Texas, and then retired to a less-hectic but active life in the Taos area. While there, he met and married Grace McCullah, a Navajo tribal officer and a federal adviser during the Clinton administration, who survives him. He is also survived by four sons by prior marriages, four grandchildren, three siblings, three stepsisters, four step-children, and numerous step-grandchildren.
