On stage, Kowalski calls out shutterbug
Theatergoers: you don't want to mess with Stanley Kowalski. Especially when he has a Twitter account.
Last night, in act three of the final preview perfomance of A Streetcar Named Desire at the Yale Rep, lead actor Joe Manganiello stopped to yell at a patron who had apparently been taking pictures or video throughout the show.
Audience members said that just as Manganiello's Stanley Kowalski was telling Stella that he had learned the truth about Blanche, he stopped in the middle of a line to shout "Can you stop with the camera? You have no idea how distractin' it is!" in full Kowalski mode. He then finished the line—and the scene—without further comment.
The brazen photographer must have been at it for a while: earlier in the show, Manganiello went to Twitter to tell him or her to knock it off. "Dear person taking pictures during our show tonight... The ushers are going to be looking for you and you will be thrown out..." he wrote in the first tweet, adding in a second "...you are insanely distracting to all of the actors onstage and incredibly rude. If you read this, please leave and don't come back."
Apparently, actors can't always depend on the kindness of strangers.
