Appointed

Deputy dean Jeremiah Quinlan ’03 has been appointed dean of undergraduate admissions at Yale. Except for a two-year hiatus to earn an MBA from Northwestern University, Quinlan has worked in the admissions office since he graduated from Yale College. Quinlan succeeds Jeffrey Brenzel ’75.

Two residential colleges will have new masters this fall. Stephen Davis ’98PhD, a professor of religious studies, will succeed Harvey Goldblatt ’77PhD as master of Pierson College. Psychology professor Margaret “Peggy” Clark will take over for Janet Henrich as master of Trumbull College.

Honored

A German foundation announced in June that Ruslan Medzhitov, the David W. Wallace Professor of Immunobiology at the medical school, is the inaugural winner of the $5.1 million Kröner-Fresenius Award. It is the fifth major prize Medzhitov has won in the last four years.

Elected

The Yale Corporation, the university’s board of trustees, has two new members. Economist Catharine Bond Hill ’85PhD, the president of Vassar College, was elected by alumni this spring to a six-year term as alumni fellow, succeeding Mimi Gardner Gates ’81PhD. Joshua Bekenstein ’80, managing director of Bain Capital, was selected by the corporation as a successor trustee, succeeding Edward Bass ’67, ’72ArtA.

Remembered

Tim Taylor, who coached the Yale men’s hockey team for three decades and racked up a record 337 wins, died of cancer on April 27 at the age of 71. Taylor, a graduate of Harvard, was head coach at Yale from 1976 to 2006, taking seasons off in 1984 and 1994 to coach the US Olympic team. He lived to see Yale win its first-ever national championship under his protégé, current head coach Keith Allain ’80. “He has had a positive impact on so many people’s lives, and I am fortunate to be one of them,” said Allain.
