Yale Alumni Magazine Terms and Conditions

This website is for the use of Yale University alumni and other interested readers. It’s a place for sharing information, ideas, and opinions. The Yale Alumni Magazine welcomes comments on our articles and blog posts, and we welcome comments, events, posts, notes, videos, pictures, audio, and other material posted by the alumni on Alumni Notes and Events. Still, none of them are our work—and we can’t review them all—so we don’t endorse or guarantee their accuracy, fairness, or reliability.

By using this website, you are automatically agreeing to follow these Terms & Conditions, including any changes we might make to them in the future.

Please be aware that even though we can’t review all material, we may delete or edit material you have posted, or eliminate your right to post material, if we decide you haven’t followed these rules. On the other hand, we also reserve the right to republish or edit user content posted to our site.

We reserve the right to delete comments we deem to be abusive, otherwise objectionable, inappropriate, off-topic, or offensive.

This is a non-commercial site: it’s not a place for promoting your products or services, or for harvesting contact information for prospective clients.

We encourage you to post under your real name. No impersonation is ever allowed.

Don’t post anything libelous or defamatory. Don’t post anything illegal, obscene, or technologically malicious (e.g., viruses or malware). Don’t invade anyone’s privacy. Don’t post anything harassing or deceptive.

Keep it civil. Strong opinions and vigorous debate are welcome. Use a respectful tone and avoid abusive, harassing, or threatening language; ad hominem attacks; slurs against entire groups of people; and general nastiness.

Please avoid the use of excessive punctuation or capitalization that is designed solely to raise the volume of a post.

Tell the truth. Don’t make anything up, about yourself or anyone else.

Respect copyright and trademark laws, as well as general intellectual honesty. If you post material that you didn’t create, give credit. If you don’t have permission, don’t post it. We reserve the right to remove content that violates any federal or state laws.

All of the Yale Alumni Magazine content on this site, including software, is copyrighted. You may post the first few lines of any of our articles or blog posts, or the opening few seconds of any audio or video of ours, on another website and include a link to our site; of course, you must include the name of the author(s)/artist(s) and note that the Yale Alumni Magazine is the source. (We reserve the right to require you to take down material of ours you’ve posted.) If you copy any other material from this site, such as photos, copy the original trademark or copyright notice along with it and request the author’s or artist’s permission.

The logo, name, and all graphics on the website are trademarks of Yale Alumni Magazine. Use, reproduction, copying, or redistribution of trademarks without the written permission of Yale Alumni Magazine is prohibited. All other trademarks or service marks appearing on the site are the marks of their respective owners.
