Prominent executives and Yale alumni weigh in on the future of the financial services and commercial real estate industries under the next president. 

Panelists include the following: Mr. Matt Coleman, Partner and Chief Operating Officer of TPG Real Estate; Mr. Peter Crawford, Executive Vice President of Finance at Charles Schwab and Mr. John Shrewsberry, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Wells Fargo

Matt Coleman

Matthew Coleman is a Partner and the Chief Operating Officer of TPG Real Estate. From 2005 until he joined TPG in 2012, Mr. Coleman was the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of the real estate private equity group at D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P. From 2000 through 2005, Mr. Coleman was an attorney in the New York City office of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, where he practiced in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, leveraged finance, and securities. Mr. Coleman graduated summa cum laude from Wake Forest University with a B.A. degree in Economics and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned a J.D. degree from Yale Law School, where he served as an editor of the Yale Law Journal and as the editor-in-chief of the Yale Journal on Regulation. Mr. Coleman currently serves on the Board of Directors of TPG Real Estate Finance Trust.

Peter Crawford

As Executive Vice President of Finance of Charles Schwab, Peter Crawford leads the Treasury and Controller functions, as well as Corporate Development, Planning and Enterprise Finance. Prior to this role, Peter was Senior Vice President and leader of Schwab’s asset management client solutions organization. He led the fixed income group, as well as product management, product development and wholesaling for third party mutual funds, managed accounts, ETFs, alternative investments and annuities.

Previously, Peter led product management for SchwabFunds, developing and launching Schwab ETFs and helping ignite growth across the product line. In his more than nine years at Schwab, Peter has held a variety of leadership positions. He was Chief of Staff to Mr. Charles Schwab, product managed Schwab’s cash products, led the development of several new services, and helped revitalize the “core” client segment. Before joining Schwab in 2001, Peter was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company in the Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Hong Kong offices, and a director of business development at Excite@Home. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and a master of business administration degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

John Shrewsberry

Senior Executive Vice President John Shrewsberry is the chief financial officer responsible for Wells Fargo’s financial management functions including accounting and control, financial planning and analysis, line of business finance functions, asset-liability management, treasury, tax management, investor relations, and the company’s investment portfolios. John is also responsible for Wells Fargo’s corporate development, information technology, corporate properties and security, corporate strategy and enterprise expense and efficiency functions.

John serves on the Wells Fargo Operating, Management, and Market Risk Committees and is based in San Francisco. A 21-year veteran of banking and investing, John served as head of Wells Fargo Securities from 2006 through May 2014, where he was responsible for investment banking, capital markets, institutional fixed income, equity, derivatives sales and trading, investment research, and a credit-intensive principal investment portfolio. From 2001 through 2005, he was the group head of Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, the successor to a commercial finance company he cofounded that became part of Wells Fargo in 2001. Previously, John worked at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse First Boston in the principal finance areas. He started his career as a Certified Public Accountant at Coopers & Lybrand. John earned his B.A. in economics from Claremont McKenna College and an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management. John currently serves on the board for the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation. Committed to serving the communities around him, John also serves on the boards of the Robert Day School of Economics and Finance, the Yale School of Management, the Yale Corporation Investment Committee and is active with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
