San Francisco Ballet’s Nutcracker is set right here in San Francisco in 1915, the year the fair came to town. And not just any fair—a world’s fair. The Panama-Pacific International Exposition celebrated the opening of the Panama Canal, and with it, a new age of technology and global mobility.

In SF Ballet’s Nutcracker, Clara dreams that she and her prince visit the land of snow. She watches a series of astonishing tour de force dances by characters from around the globe.
