EventsBlue Reads Presents: Skulls and Keys - The Hidden History of Yale's Secret Societies
October 19, 2017 at 6:30 pm
Diesel Books, Brentwood Country Mart 225 26th St #33, Santa Monica, CA 90402
The 230-year saga of Yale’s fabled secret societies begins with Phi Beta Kappa in the 18th century, expands with the founding of Skull and Bones, Scroll and Key, and Wolf’s Head in the 19th century, and matures with the additions of Elihu, Berzelius, Book and Snake, and Manuscript in the 20th century. It is a story of self-education, ambition, democracy, and the breaking of castes, a system which produced Presidents and Pulitzer-Prize winners progressing through their “tombs,” and resonating in the fiction of Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, and Le Carre. Join us on Thursday, October 19th at 6:30pm as David Alan Richards ’67 ‘72 Law will speak about his new history of these societies followed by a book signing. Date: Thursday, October 19 at 6:30pm RSVP AT http://www.yalela.org/article.html?aid=748
