Gold Medal honors for professor

Visiting Professor Peter Eisenman has been named this year’s recipient of the Gold Medal for Architecture awarded by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The Gold Medal is given to those who have “achieved eminence in an entire body of work.” At Yale, Eisenman has taught at the School of Architecture, first as the Louis I. Kahn Visiting Professor from 2001 to 2009 and then as the Charles Gwathmey Professor in Practice from 2009 to 2019. His regular courses include advanced design studios and seminars in formal analysis.

Faculty to present at Venice Biennale

Six faculty members from the Yale School of Architecture will exhibit their work at this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale, one of the largest and most influential architecture exhibitions in the world. This year the Biennale is scheduled to open in August.

The theme of the exhibition, curated by Hashim Sarkis, is How will we live together? Within this rubric five topic areas gather invited contributions into focused conversations. Pier Vittorio Aureli, Charles Gwathmey Professorin Practice, and Anthony Acciavatti, Daniel Rose (1951) Visiting Assistant Professor, are exhibiting in theAcross Borderssection with their practices, Dogma and Somatic Collaborative, respectively. Joyce Hsiang 99, 03MArch, and Bimal Mendis ’98, ’02MArch, cofounders of Plan B Architecture and Urbanism, will exhibit with the “As One Planet” section. Professor adjunct Joel Sanders and visiting faculty member David Gissen ’96MArch will present work within the “Among Diverse Beings” research station.
