School Notes: School of Architecture
September/October 2020

New teaching methods

In Fall 2020, the School of Architecture will explore new modes of teaching, both in reaction to the global pandemic and to create a more equitable learning environment. YSoA Open Access gathers guest lectures, reading materials, and other resources from across the architecture curriculum, making these available to all Yale Architecture students, regardless of formal enrollment in specific courses. The school will also experiment with teaching across institutions. Justin Garrett Moore, the executive director of New York City’s Public Design Commission, will teach a course with students from Yale and from Morgan State University.

Mental health and the environment

The symposium Beyond the Visible: Space, Place, and Power in Mental Health will investigate the ways in which the built environment affects mental health, using three scalesthe city, the hospital, and the homeas lenses. The symposium will take place in five online sessions across two weeks, starting on September 10.
