Newborns in Need

YSN hosted the world’s largest Yale Day of Service project in May, as more than 70 volunteers packed 375 bags for Newborns in Need. The care packages include diapers, wipes, board books in Spanish and English, and a variety of other baby care items. The donations benefit new moms at Yale New Haven Hospital’s Saint Raphael Campus, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Primary Care Clinic.

YSN cosponsors Law School event

YSN cosponsored the sold-out Women’s Campaign School at Yale: The Basics! event in April. More than 40 women signed up for the one-day workshop, a mini version of the five-day intensive program held each June, to learn how to successfully launch their political lives as candidates and campaign participants.

Creative writing awards

The 16th annual YSN Creative Writing Awards were held in April. Clinical nurse and author Theresa Brown gave the keynote address, and the three winners each received a cash prize of $1,000. The top finishers are: Camila Soto Espinoza ’21MSN, Diane Kim ’20MSN, and Cale Wardell ’20MSN. YSN is the only nursing school in the country that rewards creative writing in this way.

Professor honored

Professor of nursing Linda Honan ’89MSN was recently honored at the annual Inspiring Yale event, which recognizes one faculty member from each of Yale’s graduate and professional schools. This is the first year that all 14 honorees were women. Honan has taught in the school’s Graduate Entry Prespecialty in Nursing program for nearly 30 years.

Improving global health

As chair of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health, Dean Ann Kurth ’90MSN recently traveled to Chicago for the group’s annual meeting. “We know that putting what works into scale will save millions of lives,” Kurth said, encouraging the audience to collaborate across borders and ideologies to bring better health to all people.
