Dean joins YNHH board of trustees

Dean Ann Kurth ’90MSN has joined the Yale New Haven Hospital Board of Trustees. She is the first dean of YSN to join the board, and she is a member of the Patient Safety and Quality committee. In the role, Dean Kurth looks forward to engaging with the flagship hospital of Yale New Haven Health System, and to strengthening and expanding the partnership between the school and the hospital.

Vaccinating for COVID-19

As an example of partnership with the hospital system, Yale Medicine, and Yale Health Plan, many YSN students are involved with SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations for the Yale and greater Connecticut communities. This includes a mass vaccination clinic that has been established next door to the YSN building on West Campus. YSN faculty, students, and alumni have been serving on the front lines of the pandemic since it first reached the US.

YSN launches midwifery class on Coursera

More than 4,000 online learners have enrolled in Yale School of Nursing’s first Coursera offering, Global Quality Maternal and Newborn Care. YSN faculty members Michelle Telfer and Joan Combellick ’91MSN designed the self-paced course for health administrators, policy makers, clinicians, and advocates. The course is based on a landmark 2014 Lancet series coauthored by Helen Varney Professor of Midwifery Holly Powell Kennedy. In the early stages of brainstorming the material that would ultimately become the Coursera course, Telfer and Combellick developed a pilot program run with participants from YSN and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, where Telfer maintains multiple clinical and academic partnerships. Telfer and Combellick also collaborated with the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning for this globally offered course.
