Anonymous gift supports student aid

During its centennial celebrations, YSN announced the largest single donation in school history: a generous anonymous donor made an endowed gift of $11.1 million to support the Community Scholars program, providing full-tuition scholarships to six students each year. Community Scholars are selected, in part, for their commitment to working with underserved communities and reducing health disparities among them. “Our students, our faculty, and our school refuse to accept that the status quo of longstanding and shameful health disparities is inevitable and unchangeable,” Dean Emami said. “This remarkable gift can put Yale within reach for applicants who show great promise as future nursing leaders but who might not otherwise afford a YSN education.” 

Faculty inducted as NYAM fellows

Chair of the MSN program Alison Moriarty Daley and assistant dean for simulation and clinical innovation Christine Rodriguez were recently inducted as Fellows in the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM). Among other criteria, NYAM Fellows show evidence of strong performance in one or several of the health professional’s roles of practitioner, teacher, scientist, researcher, administrator, or citizen. Fellowship in the Academy is an honor, given the high level of achievement of the Fellows, and carries the responsibility to become involved in furthering the Academy’s mission. 

YSN professor honored for work in health equity

S. Raquel Ramos was recently honored as an inaugural recipient of the Equity-minded Nurse Researcher Award from the AARP Center for Health Equity Through Nursing and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, an initiative of AARP Foundation, AARP, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that aims to build a healthier America through nursing. Ramos is being hailed as a nurse researcher whose scholarship advances the science and the body of knowledge that advances health equity. As part of her work, Ramos leverages eHealth and community engagement to enhance cardiovascular health equity in gay and bisexual men with HIV.
