Celebrating alums in Miami

In December, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Dean Kymberly Pinder left the chilly terrain of New Haven to visit Miami, where she spent time getting to know the work of Yale School of Art alums participating in the annual art fairs in Miami. Work by alumni was abundant throughout the city at Art Basel Miami, Untitled, NADA, the Perez Art Museum Miami, local galleries, and other locations.

With the assistance of Jill Westgard, the school’s director for development and alumni relations, Dean Pinder hosted an intimate community brunch for alums, attended by artists from the 1999 through 2019 MFA cohorts, representing all four areas of graduate study at the school.

2022 MFA thesis shows and exhibitions

The School of Art’s exhibition schedule for the Spring 2022 semester includes thesis exhibitions in all four graduate areas of study, alongside an Undergraduate Thesis show. The graduating MFA cohort in painting/printmaking will exhibit work in two groups, before the MFA cohorts of sculpture, photography, and graphic design stage their thesis exhibitions.

Additionally, the first Yale School of Art Annual—a student-curated show of work by MFA students across the Northeast—will be exhibited March 28 through April 10. Entitled no white walls, this inaugural edition seeks to engage themes of collectivity and challenge the established history of the exhibition space in Western museums and galleries.

Because gallery visitation is limited in keeping with the university’s COVID requirements, extensive digital resources, including photo documentation and virtual walkthroughs, will be made available for all Spring 2022 exhibitions. Visit art.yale.edu/exhibitions for news on these resources as they become available.
