Undergraduates honor alumna
Angela Bassett ’80, ’83MFA, received the Yale Undergraduate Lifetime Achievement Award in the fall. The award, administered entirely by students and presented by the Yale College Council (YCC), recognizes Yale College alumni for their outstanding work in a particular field. Bassett, an Oscar-nominated actor, director, and producer who has appeared on stage, screen, and television, is the first Black recipient of the award. Although the YCC sent the award instead of presenting it in person because of the pandemic, Bassett was originally scheduled to receive it at an event honoring the 50th anniversary of the Afro-American Cultural Center.
Asian American Cultural Center marks 40th anniversary in 2021
In preparation for its 40th anniversary in 2021, the Asian American Cultural Center (AACC) invites alumni to submit photographs, event documents, course syllabi, video recordings, or other materials related to Asian and Asian American students’ experiences at Yale. The AACC was established in 1981 following student-led efforts for a space on campus, and is today an important site of student activism, visibility, and institutional recognition. Submissions and inquiries can be sent to Assistant Dean of Yale College and Director of the AACC, Joliana Yee.
