Alumni explore Schwarzman Center

Yale Schwarzman Center hosted dynamic open houses for alumni in May. More than 400 visitors from classes spanning 1954 to 2019 experienced the newly renovated center. Two hundred alumni took guided tours and several hundred more peeked in on exquisite upgrades by Robert A. M. Stern Architects. Alumni viewed Commons, the Dome, the Dance Studio, the Presidents’ Room, the Underground, and the Well—refurbished or newly built since their time at Yale. Courtesy of Yale Hospitality, alumni sampled the famous tahini chocolate chip cookies, a sweet staple of student life. The reunion tours were organized in collaboration with the Yale Alumni Association.

A remarkable year for fellowships

A total of 189 Yale College undergraduates, graduating seniors, and recent alumni were awarded nationally and internationally competitive fellowships in the 2023–24 academic year—including, among others: 30 Fulbright awards for study/research or English teaching, five Marshall Scholarships for study in the United Kingdom, five Rhodes Scholarships for study at the University of Oxford, seven Schwarzman Scholarships for study at Tsing Hua University in Beijing, and seven Knight Hennessy Scholars awards for graduate study at Stanford. In STEM-specific fellowships, a total of 49 National Science Foundation Awards were awarded across Yale College and the Graduate School, a Churchill Scholarship was awarded for graduate study at the University of Cambridge, and three Goldwater Scholarships were awarded to support undergraduate STEM research.

Trumbull College hosts local artists

In March, the Trumbull Art Gallery hosted an exhibition of works by New Haven artists. This event was a culmination of a collaboration between Belonging at Yale and BlackBull, a nascent Black student affinity group for Trumbullians cofounded by Jenelle Burgess TC ’26 and Alexander O’Sullivan TC ’26. The exhibition’s theme was “bridging community.” The five artists—Faustin Adeniran, Jasmine Nikole, Kwadwo AdaeMoshopefoluwa Olagunju, and Marquia Brantley—received an honorarium for showcasing their work.
