Honoring retiring faculty

In May, Tamar Gendler, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and Marvin Chun, dean of Yale College, jointly honored the 21 retiring FAS faculty members for their longtime service to the university. Faculty retirement tributes (found in full on www.fas.yale.edu) showcase retiring faculty’s lives, careers, and their impact. Honorees include faculty members specializing in a broad range of fields, from American studies to applied physics. The FAS recognizes the newest emeritus faculty with gratitude for their service and contributions to Yale. Since 1948, a single retiring faculty member is recognized for their achievements by serving as the senior marshal of the faculty and carrying a wooden and silver mace at the university commencement. This year, the faculty marshal was Roberta Frank, the Marie Borroff Professor of English and professor of linguistics, who has been a member of the Yale faculty since 2000.
