Book connects immigration ideology with Book of Revelation

Yii-Jan Lin ’14PhD, associate professor of New Testament, has published a new book unearthing how American immigration ideology and policy are influenced by the Bible’s Book of Revelation. Immigration and Apocalypse: How the Book of Revelation Shaped American Immigration (Yale University Press) traces the metaphor of America as Revelation’s New Jerusalem and shows how apocalyptic narratives have been used to exclude unwanted immigrants. Lin discusses the interplay between Revelation and immigration in a new episode of the YDS podcast series, the Quadcast. The episode can be found on the Divinity School website, the Yale Podcast Network, and other audio streaming platforms.

New professor examines mass extinction and interspecies justice

The Divinity School’s newest professor, Ryan Darr ’19PhD, is an environmental ethicist who devotes his scholarship and teaching to issues such as multispecies justice, mass extinction, and structural injustice.

Darr is the inaugural holder of the Divinity School’s new professorship in environmental ethics—a position that is emblematic of the school’s broadening commitment to teaching and scholarship in the area of religion and the environment. “I think the way we treat other species is a matter of justice. This planet is not ours alone,” says Darr, who serves as assistant professor of religion, ethics, and environment.

An “Office Hours” interview with Darr is available at Yale News and in the news area of the YDS website.
