Acting student receives Princess Grace Award
Acting student Abigail C. Onwunali ’23 is the recipient of a 2022 Princess Grace Award. The annual awards support and elevate early-career artists in theater, dance, and film with unrestricted $10,000 cash grants.
Onwunali is a multi-faceted Nigerian American theater maker currently in her fourth year at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale. Her acting credits include Charly Evon Simpson’s It’s not a Trip It’s a Journey at the Chautauqua Theater Conservatory; Valor at the Guthrie Theater; and Swimmers, Love I Awethu Further, and Love’s Labor’s Lost at the Geffen School. She is a graduated acting fellow of Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Mentorship Program and she served as a co–artistic director of the 2021–22 Yale Cabaret season, during which she also worked as a performer, director, and playwright. Her play Jewel was one of the 2021 Red Bull Theater’s Short New Play Festival winners, and her slam poems have been viewed worldwide.
