Yale Rep season features alumni
Yale Rep’s 2012–13 season opened with the East Coast premiere of American Night: The Ballad of Juan José by Richard Montoya, directed by Shana Cooper ’09MFA. The cast included Austin Durant ’10MFA. Rebecca Taichman ’01MFA returned to direct the world premiere of David Adjmi’s Marie Antoinette, a coproduction with American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, where it played in September before traveling to New Haven. The production featured scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez ’92MFA and actors Vin Knight ’88 and Brian Wiles ’12 in the cast of twelve. Tony Award–winning actor Jefferson Mays ’87 made his first appearance at Yale Rep since 1992 in the world premiere of Dear Elizabeth by two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl. Directed by Les Waters, the production, which ran November 30 to December 22, also featured award-winning actress Mary Beth Fisher. Obie Award–winning resident director Evan Yionoulis ’82, ’85MFA, stages her 12th production at Yale Rep this winter: Marie Jones’s Olivier Award–winning comedy Stones in His Pockets. Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti ’89, ’94MFA, returns to Yale Rep for the first time in nearly 20 years in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, directed by James Bundy ’95MFA, dean of the School of Drama and artistic director of Yale Rep. The season concludes with Bill Camp and Robert Woodruff’s new adaptation of In a Year with 13 Moons, from the film and screenplay by Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
