Student wins Princess Grace Award

Shaunette Renée Wilson ’16MFA, who made her Yale Rep debut last season in Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle staged by OBIE Award–winning Resident Director Liz Diamond (faculty), was among six theater artists to be honored with a 2015 Princess Grace Foundation Award at a ceremony held in September in New York City. The foundation is dedicated to identifying and assisting emerging talent in theater, dance, and film by awarding grants in the form of scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships. Since the foundation’s inception, more than 800 prizes have been awarded, totaling over $11 million.

Yale Rep productions around the country

The Yale Repertory Theatre production of These Paper Bullets! by Rolin Jones ’04MFA, adapted from William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, with songs by Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, and directed by Jackson Gay ’03MFA, had its West Coast premiere at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles this fall, before traveling back east for its New York premiere at Off-Broadway’s Atlantic Theater Company (November–January). These Paper Bullets! is one of five plays commissioned and originally produced by Yale Rep that will have their New York debuts this season. Sarah Ruhl’s (faculty) Dear Elizabeth, based on the correspondence between poets Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell, is at the Women’s Project Theatre through December. Familiar by Danai Gurira will be produced at Playwrights Horizons in February and March. Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’s War will be seen at Lincoln Center Theater’s LCT3 beginning in May. And Indecent, created by Pulitzer Prize–winner Paula Vogel and director Rebecca Taichman, will be seen at the Vineyard Theater in the spring, following its world premiere coproduction at Yale Rep and La Jolla Playhouse this fall.
