YLS professor elected to American Law Institute

Cristina Rodríguez ’95, ’00JD, the Leighton Homer Surbeck Professor of Law, has been elected to the American Law Institute (ALI). Rodríguez’s research interests include constitutional law and theory, immigration law and policy, administrative law, and citizenship theory. She has served in the US Department of Justice and on the Council of Foreign Relations, and clerked for justices of both the US Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court. The ALI is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and improve the law.

New librarian at YLS library

Teresa Miguel-Stearns has been appointed law librarian and professor of law for the Lillian Goldman Law Library. She succeeds Blair Kauffman, who is retiring after 22 years at the helm of the library. Miguel-Stearns earned her JD from the University of Richmond School of Law and worked as a public defender before earning her MA in library and information science from the University of Arizona. She has been with the law library since 2005 and has served as deputy director since 2011. She is committed to continuing the vision of the law library to be the best academic law library in the world.

Mourning the passing of a professor

Yale Law School professor emeritus Jan Ginter Deutsch ’55, ’62JD, ’62PhD, died on May 19, 2016, at the age of 80. “Jan was among the most brilliant minds of his generation,” said Dean Robert C. Post ’77JD. “He will be deeply missed.” Deutsch was the Walton Hale Hamilton Professor Emeritus of Law and professorial lecturer in law at Yale Law School. His areas of expertise were corporations and securities regulations. Deutsch taught a range of courses, including applied jurisprudence, law and business, and social science and law. Deutsch was educated at Yale (BA, LLB, and PhD in political science) with an MA from Cambridge. He was born in Katowice, Poland. A memorial will take place on Friday, October 21, at 4:30 p.m., as part of the YLS Alumni Weekend.
