Yale Medical Group changes name

Yale Medical Group, the clinical practice of the Yale School of Medicine and the largest academic multispecialty practice in New England, has been advancing medicine for more than 200 years. It now has a new name: Yale Medicine. But the change extends far beyond a name, said Paul Taheri, CEO of Yale Medicine. “We are changing the way we work. With our firm roots in research and education, we’re focusing on achieving ever greater heights in patient care.”

With more than 1,200 doctors, Yale Medicine enables each to play multiple roles in advancing their fields—from treating and caring for patients, to developing new cures through innovative research, to educating future doctors. The new brand signals an increased emphasis on collaboration, among care teams as well as with patients and partners.

Grant will accelerate discoveries

The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) has awarded the School of Medicine $53.6 million to renew its five-year Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) to accelerate research discoveries that can have a positive impact on health. This is the second renewal for Yale, which was among the first 12 institutions—and the only one in New England—to receive CTSA funding when the National Institutes of Health started the program in 2006. The award supports the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI), established in 2005 as part of the school’s strategic plan to develop an infrastructure to support research and educate the next generation of investigators. YCCI also receives support from YSM, Yale Medicine, and Yale New Haven Hospital.  “CTSA support will allow us to continue to expand our research enterprise to support the acceleration of treatments from the bench to the bedside,” said Robert J. Alpern, dean of YSM and the Ensign Professor of Medicine.
