Dean of admissions retires

Students, colleagues, faculty, and alumni from three Yale schools gathered to celebrate the School of Medicine’s Director of Admissions Richard Silverman for his 40 years of service. Prior to his tenure at the School of Medicine, Silverman was associate director of admissions at Yale College (1977–83) and director of admissions at the Yale School of Management (1983–99). Silverman reinvented the admissions process for hopeful Yale medical students, driving major efforts to digitize and streamline the application process. Over the course of his career, Silverman has overseen medical school applications from 73,627 hopefuls, 15,009 of whom were interviewed and greeted personally by Silverman on their interview day; 1,927 of these were accepted and enrolled.

Celebrating 100 years of women

On June 1, the School of Medicine will host a daylong symposium to celebrate a century since the first female students were admitted in 1916. Today, about half of the school’s incoming medical students are women, and women are among its most accomplished faculty members. The school is commemorating this milestone with a planned exhibition and a collection of videos of female leaders at the school. Visit the website for more information.
