School of Management campus approved

The New Haven Board of Aldermen voted 25–1 to approve a zoning change that will allow the university to build a new $189 million home for the School of Management on Whitney Avenue across from the Peabody Museum. (See “SOM Lands a Leading B-School Dean,” March/April 2010.) Demolition of the existing buildings on the site has already begun, and although the required gift funding for the buildings has not yet been announced, the university expects to begin construction by the end of the year and complete the project by 2013.

Peru withdraws some claims against Yale

Lawyers for the government of Peru have dropped some of the claims in their lawsuit against the university over ownership of thousands of artifacts excavated from Machu Picchu nearly 100 years ago. (See “Peru v. Yale,” January/February 2009.) The government still seeks the return of the artifacts, but they have withdrawn fraud and conspiracy claims that were based on allegations that Yale deceived the nation about its intentions when it took the artifacts out of the country.
