When the renovated Morse College opened this fall, students came back to rooms reconfigured into suites and to new amenities, including a theater, a fitness room, and a recording studio. Outside its dining hall, the college also now has a broad fountain that Master Frank Keil calls the Morse Beach. In September, students were sunbathing beside it, faculty children were playing in it, and outdoor diners were enjoying the view. Keil says the water has been irresistible from the start. "We've been informally talking about ourselves as the West Coast of Yale," he adds. "We are on the west coast. We are rustic and outdoors, but still elegant."
