Our last issue reported on a campus cliffhanger: Yale president Richard Levin ’74PhD was one of three candidates President Obama was considering to replace (former Harvard president) Larry Summers as director of the National Economic Council. The job would have required Levin to leave Yale after 17 years as president.

Levin was not chosen for the job. But Obama didn't abandon the Ivy League theme: he announced in January the appointment of a Yale alum, Gene Sperling ’85JD, who had held the same post in the Clinton administration. In a statement, Levin called Sperling "a terrific choice."
