If you were in the Yale College Class of 1957, you were more likely than not the product of a private school. (Just 43 percent of the class went to public schools.) What’s more, there was about a 20 percent chance that you went to one of five particular private schools. Today, there are some new names on the list of the top five Yale feeder schools—but more importantly, those top five form a less significant portion of the class. About 56 percent of the most recent classes went to public schools; students from the top five schools for the years shown (2007–10) represent just 3.6 percent of those classes.
