Stepping down

After 36 years at Yale, vice president and general counsel  Dorothy Robinson is retiring. The longest serving officer at the university in the past 70 years, Robinson became general counsel in 1986 and vice president in 1995. After she steps down in August, she will stay on in an advisory position to President Salovey through the fall and winter. “The university has been the beneficiary of Dorothy’s unsurpassed leadership and her wisdom,” Salovey said in an e-mail announcement.

Elected

Gina Raimondo ’98JD has been elected by alumni to serve as an alumni fellow of the Yale Corporation, the university’s board of trustees. Raimondo serves as the general treasurer of Rhode Island and is currently running for the state’s Democratic gubernatorial nomination. She was selected over Unilever executive Gina Boswell ’89MPPM.

Appointed

Sociology professor and deputy provost Julia Adams has been appointed master of Calhoun College. Adams, who has taught at Yale since 2004, is a historical sociologist whose interests range from the formation of states to the role of gender on Wikipedia. Adams and her husband, Hans van Dyk, have four children.

Two residential colleges will have new deans this fall. Associate director of admissions Jessie Royce Hill succeeds Hugh Flick as dean of Silliman College, and Sarah Mahurin ’11PhD, a scholar of English and African American studies who most recently taught at Wesleyan University, will take over for John Loge ’66 in Timothy Dwight College.

Nicole Bouché has been appointed librarian and executive director of Yale’s Lewis Walpole Library in Farmington, Connecticut. Bouché comes to Yale from the University of Virginia’s Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library.
