Yale’s first sixth-grade graduation

The West Campus houses a displaced school—and helps make its graduation special.

It’s not every sixth-grade class whose graduation procession is led by the president and provost of Yale in full academic regalia. But the university has a special connection to this year’s graduates of Peck Place School in Orange, Connecticut. After burst pipes at the school revealed asbestos in January, students and teachers moved into a vacant building on Yale’s West Campus for the remainder of the school year and held their graduation there—with an extra Ivy League flourish or two.
