Former president Jimmy Carter spoke to a full house at Woolsey Hall on December 2. Carter decried worldwide violence against women and girls, the subject of his latest book. Carter called for harsher penalties against men who commit sexual assault on college campuses.

 

The School of Management jumped from 21st to 6th in the newest Bloomberg Businessweek ranking of business schools. The rankings measure the results of student and employer surveys and research output of faculty.

 

An estimated 2,000 supporters of a union for teaching assistants rallied on College Street on October 21. They called for Yale to negotiate with the Graduate Employees and Students Organization, which says it represents 1,000 TAs and researchers. Yale argues that the teaching assistants are primarily students, not employees.

 

Harvard and Yale students will learn together next fall when Yale College begins offering Harvard’s popular Computer Science 50, an introductory lecture course. Yale students will watch Harvard professor David Malan’s lectures on video but have sections and office hours on Yale’s campus.

 

After swastikas were discovered drawn in chalk outside Durfee Hall in October, students and administrators took pains to condemn the action. Yale College dean Jonathan Holloway ’95PhD wrote in an e-mail to students that “there is no room for hate in this house,” and students gathered at the site of the graffiti to write messages of love and hope.
