Field at Yale Bowl will remain natural

Yale is no longer pursuing a proposal to replace the grass at the Yale Bowl with artificial turf (“Artificial Turf for the Bowl?” November/December). The plan would have allowed the installation of a temporary indoor practice facility for athletic teams during the winter months. Athletics department spokesman Steve Conn says the department is exploring other locations for an indoor practice facility.

 

Fraternity settles lawsuit over accident

Members of the Yale chapter of the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon reached an agreement to settle a lawsuit filed by the victims of an accident at a 2011 Yale-Harvard tailgate party (“Tragedy in Lot D,” January/February 2012), the Associated Press reports. One woman was killed and two others severely injured when they were struck by a U-Haul truck driven by a member of the fraternity. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
