Yale College admitted 1,972 students to the Class of 2020 in March. That’s 6.27 percent of the record 31,455 students who applied. Starting next year with the Class of 2021, classes will be 15 percent larger as the new residential colleges are completed.

 
Yale and eight other private universities filed an amicus brief in February urging the National Labor Relations Board to continue classifying graduate teaching assistants as students, not employees. Graduate students trying to organize a teaching-assistants union at Yale recently changed the name of their group from the Graduate Employees and Students Organization to Local 33, an affiliate of UNITE HERE, the parent group of Yale’s employee unions.
 

Alicia Schmidt Camacho, a professor of American studies and ethnicity, race, and migration, was arrested in front of the White House in February along with 13 other activists. Holding a sign that read, “President Obama: you have blood on your hands,” the group was protesting the recent deportation of undocumented Central Americans who they say are refugees. Schmidt Camacho is associate master of Ezra Stiles College.

 
A $30 million gift from Joseph Tsai ’86, ’90JD, will go to support the Law School’s China Center, which works on Chinese legal reform and US-China relations. Tsai, vice-chair of the Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba, made the gift in honor of his late father, Taiwanese attorney Paul Tsai ’54LLM, ’57JSD, after whom the center will be renamed.
