Goodbye to Gibbs

The end is near for a long-serving but little-loved Yale building: this fall, the 61-year-old Josiah Willard Gibbs Laboratories (in foreground) on Science Hill will be demolished, pending city approval of a university parking plan. In its place, the university will build a 280,000-square-foot, six-story interdisciplinary science building. Pelli Clarke Pelli of New Haven is the architectural firm for the project, which will cost more than $200 million.*
