Former secretary of state John Kerry ’66 brought leaders from politics and business to campus September 18 and 19 for the Yale Climate Conference—the first big project of his Kerry Initiative at Yale’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. Speakers included governors Jerry Brown ’64LLB of California and Jay Inslee of Washington, former secretary of state James Baker (shown here with Kerry), World Bank president Jim Kim, Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo, General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt, and actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who is a UN Messenger of Peace for Climate. “I have left the government convinced that if we’re going to solve this problem,” said Kerry at one of the conference’s five sessions, “it is going to be because the marketplace moves in order to provide a solution.”
