This summer, almost 50 years after Yale College admitted women, the university dedicated its first athletic building built exclusively to support women’s sports. The Carol Roberts Field House, which sits between the field hockey and softball stadiums at the Yale fields, is now home to both women’s field hockey and softball teams. Named for Carol Roberts ’81, a former field hockey and softball player who was the lead donor for the project, the building includes locker rooms, training and office facilities, and a second-floor VIP room overlooking both fields. Head softball coach Jen Goodwin says the new field house is already making lives easier. “Previously our team was in Smilow Field Center; it was a bit of a trek,” says Goodwin. “It’s really saving hours of their day, and we all know how the daily life of a Yale student is. Every minute counts.”
