Appointed

Poet, memoirist, and editor Meghan O’Rourke ’97 (left) has been appointed editor of the Yale Review, a literary quarterly published by the university. O’Rourke has previously been an editor at the New Yorker, Slate, and the Paris Review. She is the author of three poetry collections and a memoir about the death of her mother called The Long Goodbye. She will take her post at the Review on July 1, the publication’s 200th anniversary.

Sociologist Elijah Anderson has been appointed Sterling Professor of Sociology and of African American Studies. Anderson, who came to Yale from Penn in 2007, is an urban ethnographer; his books include The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race and Civility in Everyday Life. The Sterling Professorship is Yale’s highest faculty honor.

Three Yale seniors will study at Oxford this fall as Rhodes Scholars: Rayan Alsemeiry ’19 of Mesa, Arizona; Eren Orbey ’19 of Acton, Massachusetts; and Riley S. Tillitt ’19 of Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

Remembered

T. N. Srinivasan ’62PhD, the Samuel C. Park Jr. Professor Emeritus of Economics, died in Chennai, India, on November 11. He was 85 years old. Srinivasan was best known for his study and advocacy of economic reforms in his home country of India. He taught at Yale immediately before and after earning his PhD at the university in 1962, then returned as a full professor in 1979. He retired in 2011.
