Beginning this fall, students in Yale College can pursue a major in computer science and economics. Although students have double-majored in the two fields before, the new interdepartmental major will require fewer courses than a double major. “The fields of computer science and economics are now deeply intertwined, and they are becoming more so,” says Joan Feigenbaum, the Grace Murray Hopper Professor of Computer Science, who helped develop the major.

Georgetown law professor Nick Rosenkranz ’92, ’99JD, is gathering alumni signatures to become a petition candidate for Yale’s Board of Trustees. Alumni elect one trustee each year. They typically choose from candidates selected by a Yale Alumni Association committee; however, the bylaws allow a petition candidate on the ballot if the candidate collects signatures equal to 3 percent of the total number of ballots distributed in the previous election. Rosenkranz must collect the necessary signatures by October 1 to be on the ballot. The candidates chosen by the committee are typically announced in April.

Artist Faith Ringgold (left) will design a series of six stained glass panels for the Grace Hopper College common room to replace panels that commemorated the life of John C. Calhoun, for whom the college was originally named. Ringgold, 88, has worked in painting, quilts, and sculpture during her long career and has written and illustrated 17 children’s books. The university committee that chose Ringgold will commission another artist to replace similar panels in the Hopper dining hall.

A lawsuit against Yale filed by former basketball captain Jack Montague  has been settled out of court, the New Haven Register reported in June. Montague claimed in the suit that he had been wrongly expelled in 2016 over an accusation of nonconsensual sex; he sought damages and readmission to the university. No criminal charges have been filed in the case. (Montague has since graduated from Belmont University.) Yale had no comment on the settlement, and Montague’s lawyer said in a statement only that “The parties have resolved the case to their mutual satisfaction.”

The comment period has expired.
