Yale’s baseball stadium, known for its first 93 years simply as Yale Field, has been renamed to honor the late President George H. W. Bush ’48. After returning from service in World War II, Bush played first base for the varsity baseball team and was captain his senior year, helping to take the Bulldogs to the College World Series in 1947 and 1948. (Shown here: Babe Ruth, in 1948, handing Bush the manuscript of Ruth’s autobiography for the Yale library.) The stadium recently received extensive renovations. “President Bush is a wonderful example of what Yale student-athletes are capable of,” said athletics director Vicky Chun, “and his name on our field will inspire current and future Bulldogs for years to come.”
