Psychology professor Jennifer Richeson (left) has been appointed by the Biden administration to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Richeson, the Philip R. Allen Professor of Psychology, studies how people respond to social inequality, injustice, and discrimination. The 30-person council makes science, technology, and innovation recommendations to the president and the White House.

The Yale Alumni Association will award its highest honor, the Yale Medal, to five alumni later this year in a virtual ceremony. The alumni are Ralph Dawson ’71, a pioneering Black activist at Yale; Thomas S. Leatherbury ’76, ’79JD, a former Yale Alumni Fund chair; Neil A. Mazzella ’78MFA, a mentor and volunteer for the School of Drama; Kevin P. Nelson ’92MPH, a volunteer organizer of School of Public Health alumni; and Lise Strickler ’82, a fundraiser and donor who has advised Yale on climate change.

The Yale-Jefferson Award for Public Service, administered by the Yale Alumni Association and Students and Alumni of Yale (STAY), is given annually to one Yale College student, one graduate or professional student, and one alum. This year’s recipients are Nicky Brussel Faria ’21, who is helping build an overnight shelter for youth experiencing homelessness in New Haven; Paola V. Figueroa-Delgado ’24PhD, who has created mentoring programs that connect undergrads nationwide with Yale grad students and postdocs; and Margaret Flinter ’80MSN, clinical director of the Community Health Center in Middletown, Connecticut, and founder of its research arm, the Weitzman Institute.

Sterling Professor of Chemistry William l. Jorgensen has been named a 2021 Citation Laureate. The analytics company Clarivate names the laureates based on how often their research is cited in other studies. Jorgensen works in computational chemistry and molecular design; at least four of his publications have been cited more than 2,000 times.
