Postseason hockey starts tonight

You remember two years ago, when the Yale men's hockey team was ranked No. 1 in the nation for eight weeks and had its best chance in decades to make the NCAA's Frozen Four? They made it to within one game but bowed out in the quarterfinals.

Well, it's postseason hockey time again, and the Bulldogs, ranked No. 13, are once again expected to make the NCAA Tournament, either by winning the ECAC tournament or through an at-large bid. It all starts tonight at Ingalls Rink, where Yale faces St. Lawrence in the first of a best-of-three quarterfinals series. Yale Sports Publicity has the rundown.

One thing that may be different from your time at Ingalls as a student (and mine): one of the biggest obstacles the Bulldogs (and everybody else) will face these days—both in the ECAC and the NCAA—is just up the road in Hamden. The Quinnipiac Bobcats (née Braves) are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation.

UPDATE: Yale won Game One 6–1. If they win tonight, they'll spend next weekend in the ECAC Final Four in Atlantic City.
