To see or not to see—Paul Giamatti in Hamlet

After weeks of the game Spot Paul Giamatti Around Campus, New Haveners can finally spot him on stage—if they bought tickets far enough in advance.

Giamatti is starring in Hamlet at the Yale Rep through April 13, directed by School of Drama dean James Bundy. The show quickly sold out, thanks to Giamatti's fame not only as a triple Yalie—son of university president A. Bartlett Giamatti ’60, ’64PhD, and graduate of Yale College (1989) and the School of Drama (1994)—but also on screen in films like Sideways and Barney's Version and TV's John Adams.

Those without tickets can skulk around the vicinity of Chapel & York streets, looking for a small bald man. (We've seen him at J&B Deli, on York Street smoke breaks, and once standing, sheepishly, right in front of his own Hamlet poster, waiting to cross the street.) Or you can head over to the University Theatre on April 1, when Giamatti will deliver the annual Maynard Mack Lecture, named after the Yale faculty's late Shakespeare scholar. That one is free.
