Look for the rainbow—after dark

Along with the glorious springtime colors that are brightening New Haven's days, the city commissioned a light sculpture to brighten the nights. "Night Rainbow," designed by artist Yvette Mattern in honor of New Haven's 375th birthday, launched itself from the top of East Rock last night.

The laser sculpture will reappear each of the next three nights, arcing over the New Haven Green toward the harbor. Last night, clouds and fog obscured the view for many. Let's hope the coming evenings are clearer.

In the meantime, enjoy these photos by Thomas MacMillan of the New Haven Independent (more pix and a writeup here) and by our own Mark Alden Branch, who lives somewhere under the rainbow. More photos at Night Rainbow Live Blog and the New Haven Register.
