Next Saturday: 2013 Yale Day of ServiceSo what do you have planned a week from tomorrow? Maybe you want to play dodgeball with kids in Hong Kong? Or stencil sidewalks to promote pedestrian safety in New Haven? Or sing to the elderly in Los Angeles? Or organize donated clothes for schoolchildren in Portland? Yes, Saturday, May 11, is the fifth annual Yale Day of Service, when thousands of Yale alumni, students, family, and friends meet at 280 sites around the world to do some good together. Find a list of projects sponsored by Yale clubs and organizations here. But what if there's not a project near you? Or maybe you're more of the independent-study type, not so into following the herd? This year, organizers have made it possible for alumni to register as "independent participants" working on local service projects of their choosing. However you do it, have fun. And send pictures! Every year we choose one photo from the Day of Service to publish in the magazine (and more online). Send high-resolution images to alumnimag@yale.edu by May 31 with the subject line “Yale Day of Service Photo Contest.”
