Weekly sports roundup (5/6–12): lacrosse advances at NCAAsTrailing Penn State 5–1 at halftime, the men's lacrosse team turned things around in the second half to pull off a 10–7 upset in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday. The win puts the Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time in 21 years. Their next task: face No. 1 seed Syracuse on Saturday in College Park, Maryland. The No. 35 women's tennis team also saw action in their NCAA tournament on Saturday, but they lost to No. 23 Georgia Tech in a 4–3 heartbreaker in Gainesville, Florida, ending a successful season that included an Ivy League championship. In other spring sports this week (information from Yale Sports Publicity): The No. 9 women's crew swept Rhode Island on Saturday in their last regular-season meet. They row in the Ivy League Championship on Sunday. The men's track team placed 36th at the IC4A championship at Princeton last weekend. Mike Levine ’13 took eighth place in discus, and Matt Thwaites ’13 finished fifth in the 10,000 meters. Meanwhile, the women's track team competed at the ECAC championship in Princeton, finishing 31st. Elizabeth McDonald ’16 stood out for the Bulldogs with a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meters. Off this week but with more season to go: the men's heavyweight and lightweight crews and the coed and women's sailing teams.
