President Salovey takes office

"Both proud and humbled," Peter Salovey ’86PhD took office today as the 23rd president of Yale University.

"Even as I attend to the mundane tasks of moving into my new office in Woodbridge Hall, I will be thinking about how best to serve the faculty, students, staff, alumni, and friends of Yale," he wrote in a message to the Yale community. Repeating his vow to work toward "a more accessible, innovative, and unified Yale," Salovey declared that "throughout my presidency I will rely on the collective wisdom of our Yale community."

In a 15-second Instagram video, Salovey is, necessarily, more succinct. "I'm looking forward," he tells viewers, to "being inspired by you to create an even more inspirational Yale—for the world."

His presidential inauguration takes place on October 13.
