Weekly sports roundup: season ends for baseball, lacrosseWith an 11–4 loss to Dartmouth yesterday, the Yale baseball team missed its chance to go to the Ivy League Championship Series for the first time since 1995. The Bulldogs and the Big Green had tied for first place in the Red Rolfe Division of the Ivy League, and the game in Hanover was a playoff to see who would move on to the three-game championship series. (Columbia won a playoff with Penn to secure the Gehrig Division championship.) The Bulldogs led 2–0 going into the third inning, but a seven-run third for Dartmouth put Yale in a deep hole. David Toups ’15 launched a rally in the seventh with a two-run homer—his first of the season—but the Big Green went on to score four more runs in the eighth. Yale finished the season at 19–22, 11–9 Ivy. The only other team in action this week was the No. 13 men's lacrosse team, which hoped to win the Ivy League Tournament for the third straight year and get a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Facing Harvard in the semifinals of the Ivy tourney on Friday, the Bulldogs were in the game to the last second but lost 10–9, putting an end to a 9–5 season (3–3 Ivy, 4th place). Those two games marked the end of the varsity sports year at Yale—on land, at least. Yale's crews and sailing teams will compete in championships later this month and into early June. ___________________________________________ The Yale Alumni Magazine is published by Yale Alumni Publications Inc., an alumni-based nonprofit that is not run by Yale University.
