Yalies around the world: get busy!So let's talk about your weekend. Sunday, of course, is reserved for Mom, but it's not too late to think about devoting Saturday to Alma Mater. Tomorrow is the sixth annual Yale Day of Service, in which thousands of Yale alumni and their families and friends get together around the world for volunteer projects organized in conjunction with local Yale clubs. You can find the list of projects and register for one here. The list is remarkable in its diversity. Yalies will be cleaning up a creek in Anchorage, Alaska; helping distribute food at a food pantry in New Haven; recruiting foster families for dogs in Shanghai; counseling women with unfaithful spouses in Menlo Park, California; designing houses for Habitat for Humanity in Boston, Washington, and New York; sprucing up the grounds of a children’s museum in Bozeman, Montana; and collecting books for a literacy center in the Dominican Republic; among many, many others. So go out, get busy, and have fun. And send pictures! Every year we choose one photo from the Day of Service to publish in the magazine (and more online). Send high-resolution images to alumnimag@yale.edu by May 31 with the subject line “Yale Day of Service Photo Contest.”
